Soviet/Russian aircraft question?

Does anybody know why Soviet/Russian fighter and fighter-bomber aircraft have a two inch (+/-) vertical white stripe painted up the centre of the instrument panel? I’ve seen this on a number of aircraft types, and have no idea what it’s for. Can anybody help?
Jim, it’s also there on the MiG-15 Fagot/Midget, MiG-17 Fresco, MiG-19 Farmer, etc, etc… Including the Foxbat and Fulcrum. It doesn’t appear to be the case on Sukhoi aircraft – but that only means I haven’t seen it…

The early MiG jets were notoriously unstable and did not recover from a spin well. The pilot’s instruction in the event of a spin was to push the control stick against that white line. If the plane did not come out of the spin within three rotations, they were supposed to eject. This would have been applicable to the MiG 15 in particular, and likely the 17 as well.

Why they still put in in aircraft I don’t know, but I’d guess it just became a tradition.
